Looking for eye-opening reading material this weekend? Consider sitting with a cup of tea or coffee and LiveStrong’s newly released report on cancer in the developing world called “Delivering Hope: Cancer Care in the Developing World”. Full of stories, information and data, this report brings to light why world leaders everywhere need to come together now to address the growing non communicable disease (NCD) epidemic.
I challenge each of us to read this report, then sit and think for a moment about what it means for us and how we can make positive changes in our own lives and in our world to help improve cancer control worldwide.
This report is entitled DELIVERING HOPE for a reason. Because together, we CAN eradicate NCDs worldwide.
Except from LiveStrong’s report:
“36 MILLION PEOPLE AROUND THE WORLD lose their lives to cancer, diabetes, heart disease and chronic respiratory diseases each year. Globally, they account for more deaths than any other cause. What is more startling is that 80 percent of deaths from these non communicable diseases (NCDs) occur in low- and middle-income countries.1 No longer diseases of the wealthy, NCDs pose a major health and economic threat to us all.”
