This blog entry with a focus on art was written by one of our MaxStations, Melissa Nunes, based in Mumbai who shares her experience coordinating the Maximize Life Art Project in India, alongside the Friends of Max patient association. Herein, she shares great examples of how to use art creations for the enhancement local patient groups. The most exciting part of this blog is how the ideas from India can be reproduced by groups all over the world using local artwork.
Art has various definitions, for me art is truly a way of expressing one’s thoughts and emotions by using the creative skills. I myself love to paint, love those colors and merging those colors to make a piece of art is just a pleasing course in itself. When I was asked to work on the 2011 Art Project with my colleague, Beena ji, I was very glad to get such an opportunity.
Besides getting to announce this year’s project to Friends of Max and putting posters in our office, our team at MaxIndia also called all the recipients and caregivers who had submitted their art in 2010 and this year once again they sent in beautiful pieces of art. We selected some paintings from the Art Therapy Workshops at the Friends of Max meetings that were conducted throughout the region. The art project was also announced to survivors and caregiver coming to the Max India office.
All artists participated in this project with such a pleasure. Well before that date of submission we received 32 beautiful pieces of art from all parts of India along with complete details. One of our volunteers who is now a MaxStation – Leenata, helped me to put this information together in our artwork spreadsheet. We had received amazing paintings and each painting portrayed a thought, a vision from their hearts. Paintings were then chosen for the new calendar of 2012, according to the significance of that particular month.
Another exciting implementation of the artwork is that one of the paintings each year is chosen as a logo for our annual meeting and the same logo is used as a cover page for all materials, the calendar cover page and the note pad cover pages. Last but not least, these paintings are put up in Max India office to make our room more pretty and that way we feel the presence of survivors always with us.
