This update on the MaxSmiles event has been edited by Guest Blogger and MAX social work intern, Katie, and told to us by Wirat, one of our MaxStations based in Bangkok, Thailand.
As part of the day celebration on September 22nd, MaxSmiles members in Bangkok, Thailand organized a “Give Back” project. They asked members to bring new and used toys, books, baby diapers, and other supplies to donate to children in rural hospitals. The event was a great success and members near and far were more than pleased to participate. What a generous way to give back to the community!
Our earlier blog post detailed the MaxSmiles group’s recent meeting to commemorate 9/22, Stomp Out Cancer, and the “What’s my PCR campaign?”. They also celebrated their five year anniversary as a patient group! The celebration featured an educational workshop from knowledgeable physicians and mindfulness practice led by a Buddhist Monk, as well as a way for MaxSmiles members to give back to their community.
Now we are sharing the response to their “Give Back” project, where some members who could not be present at the meeting even dropped off goods in advance. One member dropped off toys, sandals, and milk in advance. Another member, named Grandma Chok, sent a package of hand-made wooden and paper toys, along with a photo of herself and her grandchildren and a note of gratitude.
Grandma Chok's note read:
“I would like to send this along with my photo to be part of the meeting. I am not feel well, but I have never forgot that I can live up until today, is from the encouragement that MaxSmiles has been sending me, and all the doctors that have been helping me to get the medicine which gave me a new life. I wish you the happiness to all who join the meeting today. From, Grandmom Chok”.
This is just one example of the powerful impact that the MaxSmiles group has had on the lives of its members.
Congratulations to MaxSmiles on a life-changing five years and on a remarkable celebratory event! Cheers to the many years to come!
