On 16 June, the United Nations (UN) hosted a Civil Society Hearing for the High-Level Summit on Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs) taking place in September. Our own Pat Garcia-Gonzalez was in attendance, representing cancer survivors everywhere and NCD Alliance members including organizations such as ours presented a strong and united front on all our behalves. For those of us who were unable to be at the UN in person, we are now able to view the webcast of the hearing.
The ‘Zero Draft’ of the Summit Outcomes Document, which emphasizes all of the reasons why NCDs need to be made a global priority, has also been publicly released today. Right now, the NCD Alliance is finalizing specific language in response to the Zero Draft that we would like to see in the final Summit Outcomes Document. As member states review the UN draft over the coming weeks we are asking that they consider backing our suggested language.
Please endeavor to meet with the key officials in your government who will be framing your government’s position. Follow this link to find a template letter you may wish to adapt to request a meeting: http://www.ncdalliance.org/takeaction.
Please call again on your Head of State/Government to attend the Summit to ensure NCDs are given the recognition they deserve.
We are already proud of our work together and look forward to enjoining in the efforts ahead of us to make sure that cancer control is on the global agenda!
