The Guest Blogger for this post is Mr. Francis Kariuki, patient leader and founder of the patient support group known as Henzo GIPAP Kenya. Francis shared his message with us in response to our call to action to make world leaders aware of the need for cancer control worldwide.
In our country Kenya, 82,000 new cancer cases are diagnosed and the unreported cases could double that number. That number could fill all three football stadiums in Nairobi City and overflow to neighboring towns. Now imagine the joy of football fans turned cancer patients, including the players, officials and referees!
Due to lack of proper and timely medication, late detection, poor diet and lack of proper support groups, these people won't probable see their next birthday. Cancer is no longer a time bomb, it has already exploded and world leaders should urgently come to the realization that their people are dying slowly but surely and there soon might be nobody to be employed in the civil service.
Many organizations with knowledge on how to handle the crisis are out there and ready to roll out.
